Multi-instrumentalist Keith Baumann has been a professional musician and educator for more than 40 years. He began studying banjo as a teenager taking lessons with Tony Trishcka on the east coast and later relocated to the bay area where he joined Heartland alongside members Allison Brown, Rob Ickes and Jim Nunally. In 1991 Keith moved to the Midwest and began touring with Greg Cahill and the Special Consensus. Adding tenor banjo to his skill set, he began performing in traditional jazz groups and has worked with some of the area’s top players including members of the Original Salty Dogs. Keith also performed in numerous big bands on guitar and now leads his own swing band, The Main Stem Orchestra. Also proficient on banjo and resophonic guitar, he has performed at numerous festivals and has been an instructor at several national music camps including, Midwest Banjo Camp, NashCamp, the Puget Sound Guitar Workshop and the Cape Cod Mandolin Camp. Keith is a 15 year veteran of Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music and is a feature writer for DownBeat magazine. In addition, he has been published in both Guitar Player and Flatpicking Guitar magazine.
