Hi anyone,
I was going through the internet and found this site. Thaught I might find someone who might be able to send me in the right direction. I started playing the banjo when I was 9 years of age (1963) I played banjo at many places in the 60's as kinda wonder kid out of Dallas, Tx. I even had news coverage in the Dallas Morning News. I was Purty good. Made a pretty good living for a kid starting out at places like shakeys pizza, Six Flags over Texas in the crazey horse saloon and Theatre Three in the Quadrangle. Anyway, My father purchase my second banjo for me in 1965.
IT was a B&D Silverbells Ne-Plus Ultra by Gretsch. #9 Serial number was 20 so I don't know if this was the 20th banjo or the 20th of this style that was made.
In March of 1989, someone broke into our home and stole all of our instruments and everything of value. The only thing I ever regretted being stolen was my B&D. The diamond rings and things could be replaced, but not the banjo that I grew up with.
I have kept up with Ebay, hoping that some day it might re-surface somewhere, with no luck. Is it true that each of these modles were one of a kind, and that each one was made completely different than the next?
And could someone tell me if there would be a way that I could post pictures somewhere that it might be recongnized in this Banjo community?
It was originally purchased at Whittles Music Company in Dallas, Tx on Oak Lawn Blvd. My father said he paid about $1,400. back in 1965 for it. Haven't a clue what it would be worth now, but price isn't the issue. I'm still looking for my old friend after all these years.
Can anyone help??
