My Instruments:
A poor ol' Global (tuned in E, rarely) and an equally poor ol' Chicago open-back (which I play three-finger...the open-back cuts down on the noise, since I live in an apartment). Really want a Stelling (probably a Golden Cross, but just about any would make me happy!).

Favorite Bands/Musicians:
Seldom Scene (best BG vocals, period, IMO!), Del McCoury Band, older Continental Divide (w/ Scott Vestal), Bela Fleck...also a huge fan of Diamond Rio (best country vocals, period, IMO + Jimmy Olander who is a phenomenal guitarist who also plays banjo!).

I'm a grad student at Austin Peay State U in Clarksville, TN. I'm a percussionist by training (I get to hit things for a living!), and I'm currently student-teaching as part of my pursuit to become a middle school band director. I played mandolin in a group called the Tuckassee Boys when I was in high school, which was a very rewarding experience. I also had a great three-year run more recently as lead guitarist in a country group, The Hauser Brothers. I play the banjo for fun, but also because I find it a very intriguing and interesting instrument with a ton of possibilities. I mostly play around with fiddle tunes in "melodic" style, but I'm also interested in adapting Baroque and Classical literature to the banjo. I've found that much of Bach's music lays very well on the instrument! My other hobbies include painting in oils and watercolor, riding any rollercoaster I come across, and whiling away countless hours on the Internet.
