no tinker’s dam

 


it’s a whole conversation in itself, the banjo
what makes a good one, if there is such a thing
never mind all the dust it kicks up about this
kind of wood or that; how big the pot is;
how long the scale length, fingerboard fretted

or not scooped or not; this kind of head or that,

how many pounds of pressure; this kind of bridge

and tuners and strings or that; never mind

old time or minstrel bluegrass or newgrass
ragtime or jazz folk or classical; yessiree Hannah,
it’s a tinkerer’s damn and learning to play it

is quite another tune
