I also have a raised head banjo with sunken wood maple rim, walnut neck and resonater, and a raised head old Fender raised head Concertone tone ring. Great banjos.

Favorite Bands/Musicians:
My favorite banjo player is my son Mike Sumner of the Randy Kohrs bluegrass band out of Nashville, Tn.. In September 2007, my son Mike won the national banjo championship in Winfield, Ks. for the second time, he also won it in 2001. My next favorite banjo player has to be Butch Robbins, John McQuen, Earl Scruggs, J.D. Crow, and many other great guys that can get it done.

I had messed around with a guitar from the age 14, didn't accomplish much. After serving four years in the Navy, I started playing rythm for my niece's husband, I loved the sound of the banjo. He loaned me an old open back Kay. I bought an Earl Scruggs banjo book, two weeks later my wife bought me an Alverez banjo and we formed our first band.. A year later I got a Gibson RB 250. A year after that I picked up a custom made banjo and played it for twenty years. I built a couple banjos with the help of a friend. Then I struck out on my own and have built several myself, including the two that I have now which I plan on keepiing. I have also had one forty hole arch top 1928 Gibson Granada which was a great banjo. We had a family band till the boys married and left. We are active in the southwest Indiana bluegrass sceen and promote a benefit the second weekend of May every year.
