When I was much younger I took some guitar lessons and thought the banjo would be fun to learn. I was told then that one should learn to play the guitar before learning the banjo. Like most young kids I didn't put the time into the guitar that I should have and never did learn to play. One day (40 years later) my wife, Janet, and I were sitting in a local resturant listening to a jam session where there was a husband and wife playing banjo and fiddle (he palyed clawhammer banjo and she was playing the fiddle) I mentioned to me wife that had at one time wanted to learn to play the banjo. Janet said she had always wanted to play the fiddle. So there we where and the next thing you know we where looking into banjos and fiddles. Locally all I could find was a bluegrass banjo teacher, so that is what I started with. I also had no idea how many different style of banjo there are out there. Once I had some exposure to Clawhammer banjo I relized that that was really the type of music I wanted to play. Now I'm loving every minute of it. I am employeed as a full time Fire Fighter in Aurora Colorado and run a small blacksmithing business from home on my days off.
