Grew up in Portland, OR graduated from the University of Portland with a BA in economics. Commissioned as an Air Force officer in 1962, Served as an aircraft maintenance officer and retired in 1986 as a colonel. While in the Air Force I earned a MA in education from Pepperdine University. Returned to the northwest after retirement and went to work for the Boeing company eventually ending up in the Customer Training group. Retired from Boeing in 2001.
