Ok so 1st thing is, i'm not cheap or trying to find a work around as far as buying a new banjo head goes but, my style of banjo playing has been described as ummm "Unique" I guess is the best way of putting it lol ok so, i've been a musician for 25 years (mainly guitar/bass) and decided to pick up the banjo. I'm a very rhythmic player and often use things not for what they're intended such as the actual banjo head itself. I do all kinds of crazy sh!!@t like actually bang on the head of the banjo and scratch it with my finger nails to make cool sounds in between actually playing the damn thing. It's very kind of "shaky graves" I've been told. The thing is I wear through the frosting on the head of the Banjo very quickly and someone such as myself who practices sometimes for six or seven hours straight in a day I'm blowing through banjo heads like crazy. I definitely need the frosting on it to get the sound I need (especially the scratching) I've heard some good suggestions on this form as far as my frosting goes but I don't want to deaden the sound of the banjo either by putting something on it that's too heavy or thick. I like me some bluegrass twaaaaang. So, I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion of even maybe a clearcoat I can put on a new head before I swap it out again or some thing I can refrost the bottom half without deadening the sound. Again, not being cheap I'm just a very aggressive and let's call it "different" style of banjo player Lol oh! I'm also an artist and went to art school so I can pretty much paint with anything so any suggestion would greatly help no matter how difficult it might seem;) thanks everybody I really appreciate it
