My love for music is inherited, particularly from my dad and grandfather. While not a musician, my dad has collected and exposed me to music from a multitude of genres. My grandfather, a WWII veteran, exposed me to bluegrass music. After retiring, he played rhythm guitar and sang tenor in various groups until he passed away. I would often accompany him to festivals. First, I started playing guitar because of his encouragement and was given a few of his Martin guitars. Always interested in the banjo, my parents gave me a Deering Goodtime when I was in high school. I became a more serious student after college. In addition to playing, I enjoy studying and collecting bluegrass instruments. I work as a full-time funeral director, but enjoy playing in a local "new grass-ish" trio and finding new opportunities to jam.
