My 1'st post and I start with a real problem

Good day to all, ,,deda,, here with a real problem that I cannot find a solution for so I'm hoping here amongst Banjo players and makers I can get it solved.

I've owned a closet relic that I found in a small town here in Texas a few months ago that had not been used in 70 plus years still with it's original skin top and it has been a joy playing, flailing away as never sounded so good.

It's a Lyon & Healy Mystic but due to Physics a 700 mile trip from temps in the 80's here and 15 degrees there when I opened the case the top had split, damn expansion and contraction will not be denied.

The problem I have is this week I received my new skin top. I went through every DYI site on the internet and felt prepared to remove and replace the top like 1 then 30 then 16 17 etc.

I removed and numbered every lug without any issue's, NOT!

I removed all of the skin to the ring and expected the ring to be a little stuck, NOT!

I'm telling you this ring has not budged 1 bit, none, notta, Silltch.

My carrier in Construction Consulting spanned 38 years and I will guess I've worked around issues with until now 99%.

This has me baffled because I feel hopeless and starting to resort to some extreme tactics I've used in the past that falls under the dreaded "expansion contraction coefficient".

I'm hoping to find help in fixing the issue here at the Hangout as I just have to get this fixed period.

Being a newbie and as stuck in my ways, as stuck as this ring but I have an option I think might work but I'd rather try other sane ways 1'st.

So I'm thinking that the cause of the tops split was due to "expansion contraction coefficient" then maybe I use the physics behind the "expansion contraction coefficient".

Every thing in the known universe has a "expansion contraction coefficient" and all are different and this banjos body of brass over wood is different than the 1/2" metal ring that will not budge.

I'm thinking of a night in the freezer then removed to a nice and warm room may give it the "Thermal Shock" it needs as all it needs is just a little help.

If I do so I'll remove the neck so I don't loose the fingerboard.

Here's hoping for a fix and a long relationship with you all in the Hangout.

My 1st Pawn Shop buy in 1971 The "Bomb" a 1934 Gibson Roy Smeck Stage De luxe that I bought with the original case for a $100.00 and it still to this day astounds me as it's like hearing a Steinway Grand Piano with a beautiful voice, balance and clarity.
I have several resonators with several Nationals and a late 50's Del Vecchio with a 50's period "Ry Cooder" Gold Foil pickup that does "Git up and GO".
My favorite and all who get to play it is "Sweetie" and it is truly a 1 of a kind Fender Telecaster built by one of the originator's of the Fender Custom Shop in the 1980's "BUT" he also was one of the few makers of the Masterbuilt Fenders through the 1990's and he has also was the builder of some of the Eric Clapton Stratocasters that where auctioned through Chrisites to benefit his charity for his son. This Telecaster was christened by it's maker Jay W Black in December 1997.
I've many others and none would bore anyone even my last purchase a year ago for $400.00, a 1938 Kalamazoo Super Sport a parlor guitar if there ever was one.
Now I'm joining hangout hoping for some help as I've had a few banjos over the years that were okay but I bought about 6 months ago and I have found my Holy Grail. A 1890's Lyon & Healy "Mystic" that had been in a closet for 70 years with the original skin top and man I love to rip at that banjo. Let me rephrase that I have loved ripping at that banjo until last week due to a total ripped head I discovered when I did a 700 mile trip from here to there, here 80 plus degrees, there 15, the result of the dreaded expansion contraction coefficient of all materials in the Universe.

Robert Johnson, Jimi, Ry Cooder, The Clash, The Clash, the Clash, Jeff Beck, Roy Buchanan, Clapton, Mark Knofler, Rancid, The Dropkick Murphy's who are as good as Ska and Punk gets.
