My Instruments:
1. Framus, bought new after seeing Bernie Leadon play in 1970 for less than $100,-, sold it later. Looks a bit strange but sounds quite good & pays well, slim neck with flat frets.
2. GTR Hearts & Flowers; I think bought it in 1976, sold it in 1984, hear it on vinyl album Mountain Dew "After the first gallon" 1978
3. Gibson Mastertone, bought used, from late seventies, with Liberty tonering, quite sharp tone,
4. Nechville Phantom, bought it new, Galaxy neck, very deep & mellow tone. As I did not like the wide fingerboard, Tom made me a slightly slimmer neck that feels very nice.
5. Deering Saratoga Star 06 ring. What a sound! Loud & sharp, a real bluegrass machine. "A well defined banjo sound" according to my band players. With the also excellent MTD tuner installed, a perfect instrument!

Favorite Bands/Musicians:
Banjo: Scruggs, Pat Cloud, Bela Fleck, Bob Black, Al Munde, John Hartford, Tony Trischka, Doug Dillard and very much Homer & the Barnstormers

I did about everything on the 5string, starting with bluegrass, then dutch folktunes, after that I had a jazzgroup with sax and vibraphone. Now I play bluegrass banjo with the Margry & Van Asten Band and also bossa nova and jazz with my band Stripe Azz. "The shadow of your smile" was really made for the banjo. In october 2006 I bought a Nechville Phantom with Galaxy neck at the Turtle Hill Co in Maryland. I, and with me my fellow bandmembers like it far more than the Mastertone. Looks terriffic, sound terriffic, original in every way. Really the start of a new banjo-era! In 2009 Tom Nechville made me a slimmer neck in cocobolo/galaxy, beautiful. Tom delivered it right at my door in the Netherlands, and visits me every year since, and then we have some sessions and performances. Till I played a Deering Saratoga Star at the Frankfurt Music venue, I was immediately hooked. This was what I was looking for! Finally found one (a 06 ring) that was in the budget. Loud & Clear, easy to play. Hard not to play it all day!
