I grew up with a banjo playing dad, so I'd grown up familiar with the sound and style of bluegrass banjo. I started getting into learning guitar, bass, and drums when I was a teenager cause I was into rock music. In my 20s I started listening to bluegrass, Irish music, and classic blues, so I wanted to learn instruments associated to those kinds of music. I started off with a four string banjo which I approached kind of like playing guitar. Once I got used to the tuning, and how to play chords, scales and fingerpick, I moved onto the 5 string. I like to think of a song I like and make up a banjo part that would accompany it. When I make up my own melodies, It usually ends up sounding like an Irish jig in 3/4 timing. I'm looking forward to sharing some of my recordings and listening to other people play here on the site.
