Favorite Bands/Musicians:
A little weird for a clawhammer player, maybe. I love all the bluegrass norms, Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, Ralph Stanley, JD Crowe, I recently sat in on a banjo workshop with Alan Munde. I love the old-time players too, Dwight Diller, Tommy Jarrell, Oscar Wright, Sidna & Fulton Myers, Gaither Carlton and the like. But I grew up on old country, Hank Sr. and Jr. Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash back when it wasn't cool, Charlie Daniels, Merle, Willie, Waylon, David Allen Coe. I've always loved Dwight Yoakam for some reason, he's a rock star. I've picked up on Hank III and Shooter Jennings here recently, though. Also love Irish Trad - The Clancy Brothers, Tommy Makem, The Dubliners, Seamus Ennis, and Irish Punk - The Pogues, The Tossers, Black 47, Flogging Molly, The Dropkick Murphy's. Then there's the good stuff, Social Distortion, Rancid, Lars Frederickson and the Bastards, Bad Religion, The Transplants, The Voodoo Glow Skulls, some Nirvana (Mostly the acoustic stuff), Minor Threat, I would be here all day if I put them all on. Mike Ness (of Social Distortion) has done some really good solo stuff, his version of Wildwood Flower has a banjo in it. Highly recommended.
