I started playing banjo at 10 years old. I was a Mountain Dew mascot in 1964 in Mansfield, OH and played in a family band, Rocky Mountain Boys. Then I went on to play with Jim Horn. At that time we backed up Carl Story, Hylo Brown and Molly ODay. Then I went on to play with Lawrence Lane & the Kentucky Grass, James & Bill Monroe, and then started my own group, Trade-N-Post. The original band started with myself, my brother, Ronnie Vance, Roger Howard and Danny Mahon. Then the group changed to Keith Lane, Larry Matney & Doug Matney, and the four of us played together from the mid 70's to the late 80's. And I've been playing with Northwest Territory since 1991.
