My parents gave me a banjo for Christmas one year when I was 16 yrs old. That's all she wrote folks! When I went to college, at Indiana State, I had no choice but to skip classes and play it in my dorm room all day. I eventually quit college and became an apprentice for master luthier Ernie Wells, in Connersville, IN. Approx. 3 yrs later I opened my own banjo shop. The Henry J. Banjo Shop was opened initally in 1986. However, it became more of a hobby after marrying, having children, and working over-time all the time. After being laid-off from my employment, I decided to go full-time in what I love doing...building banjos. I give full credit to Christ, who has given me this talent and the ability to do it. I sell banjo pot assemblies: Mastertone and open-back, with a variety of wood choices in nickel or gold plating. I also take custom orders and construct resonators & rims. I have a variety of nickel & gold parts for sale. My son Henry and I spend time together re-building old guitars and my youngest son Andy and I spend our free time fishing.
