I play clawhammer, drop thumb, double thumb, I gave up on Scruggs style after 25 years of frustration. Some people just don't have Scruggs hands. A friend sold me a banjo that had "Fairbanks Maker" written in the back, I didn't even know what it was. I took it to my landlord George Lowander who I knew had some banjos. He turned out to be a banjo coot, genius, banjo designer and collector. He explained to me what I had and said I couldn't play a banjo like that the way I was trying to play. He told me to throw away my picks, and thus liberated me from the tyrany of Scruggs style forever. Thanks George..
