Started playing the oldtime banjo in 2003, kinda just by chance. Saw two films that made me fall in love with the sound of the instrument. One was a documentary that had Tom Waits playing an old Leadbelly song and the other was Cool Hand Luke, where Paul Newman plays a sweet up-picking tune. So I started to learn up-picking from the Pete Seeger Book and one by Jerry Silverman. One year later in 04, I went to the annual gathering of The Danish American Folkmusic Assosiation, and heard oldtime fiddle and clawhammer-banjo. With no hesitation I switched from up-picking to clawhammer, and never looked back. In 2005 I meet a fella who played the harmonica, mainly blues and irish music, but as soon as I played Boiled Buzzards "Fine Dining" (with Dave Rice on harp) for him, he was hooked. We started the band Big Hungry Joe, which was completed with bass and guitar in 2006. We recorded a CD "hillbilly Hayride" in 2008. I started playing fiddle in Big Hungry Joe when we changed the band around a bit. The band broke up in 2012 and I play in the band Turf Rollers instead. I also on occasion play banjo and fiddle in the band Possum Whackers.
