Luthier

From brummeister1 on 5/21/2013 3:23:51 PM

Does anyone here know of a good Luthier in WI? The guys at the music stores near me(Stevens Point, Marshfield) aren't very familiar with banjos, and do about as good a job as I could do myself. Thanks for any help,

Joe

Spruce Tree Music in Madison has a good reputation. Haven't been to Golden Ring in Manitowoc in years, so don't know what their current resource person is.

I vaguely, and I do mean VAGUELY remember seeing an ad for somedoy in Green Bay, also a while back.

WHITE House of Music (West Bend) is a big supporter of the local Bluegrass scene, might have somebody they recommend.

Hey Brrrrummmmeister,
I like the way that sounds. I would second Spruce Tree music. Another suggestion would be Jeffrey Kramer(master builder) at Cloverlick Banjo in Burlington. Although I don't know how much time he has for repair work, it would be worth a shot to call him.
What kind of banjo problems you got?
Pick on,
Paul

I have taken my banjos to Jeffrey Kramer (Cloverlick Banjo) in Burlington. He does good work.

Jeff La Marche at MusicQuest on Main (right by Check's muffler) works on mine and does a good job. But I will check out the other Jeff too.

@Vapor Nothing in particular atm, just was wondering of any that're more into banjos etc. You know someone that maybe at least plays one too and so understands some of the types of diff sounds they can make and how to adjust for that. I just bought a drum dial though so am excited to get home n try it out.. :D Thanks everyone for the info. I noticed in Wausau there's a listing for MOUNTAIN LUTHIERS....

No major repairs. That's a good thing. Tinkering with your banjo is not as daunting as you might be led to believe. Next time it needs a good cleaning. Just take the whole thing apart, clean er up and put it back together. It's very enlightening. If you are ever over Point way send me a message and we could check it out.

On the western side of the state is Rick Sampson. He is outside of Galesville I believe, but does come into La Crosse. He has worked on my banjo and I was very pleased with the results. Good teacher and nice guy too.
