Is anyone still here?

From Hildy56 on 10/13/2020 6:17:31 PM

Does anyone use this forum anymore? I was excited to find this group but, the most recent post is three years old.

I’m just starting to learn on the one I bought ten years ago, and just discovering what a fine instrument I own.

Yes, they are nice banjos. What model Wildwood are you playing?

I have a Troubador that I purchased in 2005. I had just gone through a divorce and needed something to keep my mind off my problems. I then got recalled to the Navy and it went into the closet for a few years...now I have just begun the process to finally become a banjo player. I am loving this thing.

I really like the inlays on the Troubador. They are very unique. I had one of those and loved it. Then I visited Mark's shop in Sunriver, OR when he was still open and saw one of his Exotic series banjos....left his shop with an order for one of his Exotic Heirloom banjos!:) Love that banjo too but still miss the Troubador I sold to help fund that purchase.

Good luck in your banjo playing journey!

I have a Tim Davis Masterclone and it is a fine banjo. The Wildwood just seems, to me, to fit the sound that I want to make better.

Talk about staying power! - I just found this group which is overdue for an update. I play two Wildwoods: a Paragon and an Heirloom. I'm principally a 3-finger player and whenever I put the Paragon back in it's case I think "what a beast!" and how thankful I am to have it. My banjos are both dynamic and powerful instruments with tone to match. I hope Mark Platin is doing well. He sure knew how to build great sounding, tastefully beautiful instruments.

Hey, all. I recently acquired a Wildwood Troubadour. The armrest and head are not the originals, and the head (a frosted Remo) looks to be a high crown close to bottoming out. Need some advice: Were the original Fiberskyn heads on Wildwoods medium crown? What style was the original armrest? Also, has anyone tried a Renaissance head? If I upgrade the bridge, what is a good one for this banjo, and is any type of compensated bridge necessary. I am also considering experimenting with nylon or nylgut strings. The tailpiece on the banjo is a Kershner. (The original Waverly was included in the case). What about a No-Knot? This will be my first foray into the Territory of Tu-ba-tone. Appreciate any opinions and experiences.

Correction: "Tubaphone."
