I just got an 86 goldstar and Im looking for a good bridge for it. Im looking for the dryest sound I can possibly get. Going for that JD feel if you know what I mean. Thanks for any help. Troy

	Foote says: 6/15/2015 11:14:26 AM I recently bought an 84 Gold Star. It was set up by Mike Munford and sounded great with a standard Grover bridge. I replaced it with a Steve Davis compensated bridge (standard maple and ebony) and it sounds even better. For the money, these old Gold Stars are great.
	Jonny5 says: 6/15/2015 3:43:55 PM I was told to buy about 10 economy grade Golden Gates very plain version and sort through and use the ones with the fewest growth rings but I haven't done that yet as I am very pleased with the way both my Gold Stars sound right now. They are both 1981's and have pro set ups done to them. Not sure if dry sound is achievable with this brand. My 63 Gibson seems better suited for that.

	morningtoast says: 6/27/2015 11:00:00 AM I have an 82 GF 100 and an 84 JD Crowe model. For the GF 100 I am using an old Snuffy Smith bridge and the JD Crowe model I am using a Purcell Ambrosia Red Maple bridge. The old Snuffy Smith seems to have a dryer tone whereas the Purcell bridge has a more balanced bright sustain with nice bass. I have also tried the newer Snuffy Smith bridges but I wasn't as impressed. You should check out Tim Purcell's website. He has sound clips for each bridge so you can hear the differences. In particular the Select Hard Maple or the Red Maple seem to have dryer sounds.
