I bought my 1978 HF Gold Star new at the Fifth String music store on Scott Street in San Francisco. The Fifth String was owned by Richard Keldsen who started Saga Music and developed the Gold Star banjo. Traded in a funky Vega open-back banjo which helped offset the cost of the Gold Star at $575....a fair chunk of change in 1978!
