Ok, so I requested that my fave local luthier add several mods to my 1919 F-V WL to boost its volume & brightness. He added a period close fit resonator that I found, a waverly copy of a kershner tailpiece, and, just in case that didn't do the trick -- a plastic weatherking. He also leveled down the warped shelf for the tone ring so that now it has full contact with the rim.
Results? Holy mother of god! We test drove it in a session yesterday & my ears are still ringing. Mainer must have had a hide head on his (late 20s - early 30s), so the simplest thing would be to slap the calfskin head back on her.
