I'm exceedingly glad to see some one has started a group for banjo players in Utah. I only started playing this last summer. A woman in my office asked if anyone was interested in buying a banjo. I had never thought that the banjo could hold my interest. I'm not a big fan of bluegrass music, the country music I enjoy doesn't have a lot of banjo in it. I thought that Mumford and Sons used a banjo to great effect to liven up their music. So I asked how much she wanted for the banjo and on impulse bought it. Then came the real challenges, how do you play this thing and where to find a teacher. The south west corner of Utah, i.e. St George, isn't exactly a hot bed for picker. I have found on lady in town who teaches Scrugg's style three finger picking bluegrass. She has been a great help in getting started. At 46 years old my learning curve is huge, but as long as I'm having fun with it I'll stay with it. Now if there is anyone in Washington or Iron counties who know of a teacher who works in clawhammer,melodic, or other styles, please let me know how to find them. Also, a big thank you to Tannerstan for starting this group!
