Hello banjo friends,

As you may know, I have an RK-36 and love it! It came with all the standard gear, so far I have replaced the bridge and the tail piece which have made a great difference. I would now like to change the tuning pegs and then I think I'm all set. Just wondering if I can have some recommendations for what to go for and where to get them from (ideally UK based). It probably doesn't make much difference but I'm a picker.

	HSmith says: 5/11/2016 12:36:37 AM As you'd expect, there's a very limited choice of banjo components available in the UK. I've only ever seen Schaller and a few PacRim brands of tuning pegs here. I'd suggest you try Janet Davis in the USA. Here's a link jdmc.com/category/banjo-tuning-pegs.html

	alfiedog says: 5/11/2016 3:07:29 PM Why do you want to change the tuning pegs ? The stock tuners on my 35 are just as good as Gotohs. The stock peg knobs are rubbish, i replaced them with Ebony knobs which are superb, and look purty cool :)

	Chris Cooper says: 5/11/2016 3:22:32 PM If your tuners are shot, I would recommend waverley V2 tuners highly. If the tuners work ok and you just don't like the look of them I would agree with Alfiedog and just switch out the buttons.

As you know, I'm only five months into playing, so it's all still so new to me, coming from a background of playing drums (and only ever tinkering with guitar), owning and really playing a stringed instrument is all new to me. So I will try to describe my dilemma, and maybe you can assist in whether or not I need new tuning pegs, or how to adjust my current ones. Originally my rk36 came with light strings, but a few weeks ago I changed to medium gauge strings, I understand that heavier strings require higher tension to be in tune, but my pegs don't seem to keep my strings in tune for very long. When tuning the strings I would describe the action as a little stiff and almost "crunchy". It took me a while to get used to changing strings (it took some practice with a few sets of strings) but I know I have now done so correctly, with the right amount of each string wrapped around each peg. I then stretched out each string, at first they would come out of tune quite quickly, but that became less and less, I play for around an hour each day. Does this help at all in a diagnosis, Dr Banjo? :)
