2015 - the year of the Banjo!

Well another year dawns (I'm only a day late, give me a break!)...
This year's expected highlights:
* Getting married in June - sadly the good lady won't go for a banjo themed wedding :-(
* Smoking - we've (me and the good lady) have set a resolution to give up smoking - using the electronic cigs only so far - so that's good.
*More time on the banjo - for some of the last year work and family has got in the way! Need to make time each day for a pick.
*UK5 group get together in March - thanks to AlfieDog - looking forward to that.
*More time hassling Joe Mac for lessons to get me up to speed and sounding more musical and less like a badly maintained clockwork banjo automaton.
Perhaps the less time smoking will make more time for the banjo! It will certainly pay for the wedding.
Right - who's looking forward to what this year?

Sounds like your getting yourself well sorted mate, put the smoking money in a jar and get that new banjo at a Eagle next November!!!

Heh... It's all going in a jar - but the jar has been hi-jacked and sign-written "Wedding Money" and hidden in the dungeon protected by hungry tigers... Apparently SWMBO is the only one they won't eat :-)
Plus, I'm quite happy with my Ozark at the moment - the £8000 banjo can't wait until I'm, at least, a £50 player!

Hehehe - more a compulsive musical toy aquistitor! It took me 30 odd years of playing the Tuba before I went and bought a brand new one (just shy of 10K) - so don't hold your breath on me getting the 8K banjo too soon!

Simple by the end of the year I just want to be able to play the banjo...doesn't have top be well...just better than now...I feel I'm making some progress...but time will tell...just need a couple of one on on sessions to point me in the right direction....must make contact...my ulcle has just started a ne bluegrass group...maybe their banjo player might just be able to help???

Nice one BigC - playing though is a very subjective word... I 'Played' the Tuba for 40 years - including at the Albert Hall (perhaps a dozen times), National Brass Band Finals - 5 times, winning twice and second twice.
I still always looked on every time I picked it up as a practise session to be better next time I picked it up!

Hmm, i've been with simesa before when you've tried to give up smoking, not a pretty sight :-) but good luck this time at least you have a really good incentive. What does 2015 have in store for me? Well I've got a wedding to go to in June I'm really looking forward to. A week after the wedding I turn 60 which I'm not really looking forward to. I'd really like to try and find some guys down my part of the country (Essex) to play with and of course be better on the Jo at the back end of the year than I am now.

Well - quick update - day 4 of the new year - still off the fags - using the e-cig and all going well.
Banjo practise - getting there got about an hour in each day so far, and it's not been a chore - just a matter of finding the time. Back to work tomorrow - perhaps I should take the banjo on the train and turn the 50 minute journey into useful time!
This time last year I was working away from home - in Brighton - and on bright days used to sit peacefully on the seafront in one of the little shelters at lunchtime and have a practise. Worked better in the winter without a lot of people about!
