Hi, only been playing banjo for 4 months so if this is a stupid question I apologise. I put some new strings on banjo , tuned it up sounded great until I play up the neck around the 9th fret and then it sounds out of tune and the 4th string buzzes when I fret it around the 4th fret. Obviously I've done something wrong but I ain't got a clue what. Any ideas?

	simesa says: 7/18/2014 12:26:40 PM Check the height of the strings, and see if the head needs a little more tension - that would lift then slightly. Check boys in neck, Bridge position, neck angle - you can adjust that a little on some Banjos using the compensating rods. Are the new strings the same as the old ones? Have you replaced mediums with lights fit example? Lights need less tension to be tuned to the note, and don't put as much tension in the neck.

With a tape measure, measure the distance from the nut down at the peg head up to the twelfth fret. Now measure from the twelfth to your bridge, it should be exactly the same distance.

	joemac says: 7/18/2014 11:18:24 PM Do not touch the co-ordinator rods, you may regret it, the banjo was fine before your string change, the lighter strings are lying lower in the nut and bridge grooves, change the bridge and set it right, check your head tention , make sure it's not sagging more than 1/8th where the bridge sits, if so give it a slight nip up.
