Talking of bands which ought to have a banjo in - I've managed to find myself my perfect "soul mate" band.

They kind of bill themselves as a heavy metal band who've accidentally got into scrumpy and western music - and cover the likes of (in no particular order) Iron Maiden, Led Zep, Dire Straits, Michael Jackson, Madness, Stevie Wonder, George Formby, and the Wurzels.

etcetera.

So basically all the same kind of music I was absent mindedly trying to work out for banjo already - they even already do a version of the Dads Army theme, which you'll remember me posting up here a year or two back...

And then they decided they wanted a banjo in there to fill out the sound alongside the accordion and stuff...

:D

So it's like my dream band!

Musically it's really stretching me, which is jolly good! Definitely what I needed. Everything's in a weird-arse key with lots of weird-arse chord structures and stuff, so I'm loving working it all out from scratch. This stuff ain't in any Tony Trischka book!

Bluegrass it definitely isn't..

They gave me a list of a few dozen of their set list songs, so I've been working out how to fit a banjo in with their sound ever since! My first gig's in a few weeks..

And it turns out heavy metal shredding seems to be not too distantly allied to single string TIM rolling.. so watch this space..

Big grin!

Jer

Well Done Jer go for it. I played banjo for a rockabilly band out of kettering it was the best fun I had in years fitting the banjo into places you never thought of before.
