Does anyone remember seeing this around 5 or 6 years ago, I think it was called "play it again". Frank skinner had to learn the banjo and play convincingly in a bluegrass band in the usa. He was taught by john dowling at one point. He already plays the banjolele, but of course thats a completely different instrument, so I think he found it challenging)

It would be interesting to see it if anyone has a copy, its not on iplayer of course, it didnt exist then.

	g3zdm says: 10/3/2012 11:30:52 AM I can tell you that the BBC1 aired it on Sunday April 1st 2007 at 8 PM as part of their "Play it again" series. John Dowling actually did his stuff with Frank in late 2006 (and there ended my lessons/workshops with JD).
	cotton picker says: 10/4/2012 1:27:11 AM I was having lessons from John at the time, he was living in Widnes and attending the weekly Helsby picking sessions John was making the Liverpool to london trip each week to teach Frank. and was called in part way through Franks learning because the first teacher was one of the old school who had Frank hear a c d then go away and sort out which notes were being played, just like the early players had to learn. So Frank must have said somthing to the producers of the program, and John was brought in so frank's learning curve would increse to fit in with the time allowed for the filming.
