Blackberry Blossom

From thisoldman on 8/17/2014 5:10:00 AM

I was messing around with one of Mike Iverson's clawhammer arrangements of Blackberry Blossom and found that it was pretty simple to make a few changes and play in the 2-finger style. Probably at the advanced beginner level.  Here's the link http://www.bluesageband.com/Tab%20pdf%20files/blackberry_easy.pdf

By 2-finger style, do you mean Thumb lead? It can be played exactly as written in index lead.

Thanks for the question, Chip. I didn't think of specific playing style when posting. Yes, I would say that I play this primarily leading with my index, especially on Part A. In part B, I start several measures with my thumb since the first note is on the 4th string. And as I have worked on learning this tune, I have experimented with 3-finger as well in Part A (the 1-2-1-5 sequences I have tried using MIMT). Where the (strings 1-2- 3) "strums" are (like in the 3rd measure), I substitute a pinch on strings 1 and 2. Make sense? Oh - And I changed the last part of the final measure from open 3rd, strum, open 5th to open 1st, open 3rd, and 1-5 pinch (just 'cause it sounds good to me).
I think of myself as a primarily thumb-lead guy, but will mix in index lead and even 3-finger if it is efficient and sounds good. Figure that all helps me grow as a player.

Your post of Mike's tab inspired me to dust off my arrangement of the tue. I haven't played it in a long time and haven't got it up to speed yet. The left hand is more complex than Mike's, but closer to the fiddle melody. Maybe I'll tab it out someday :-)

Please do, Chip (and share).
