Glad to see this group on BH....There are so many ways to use two and OT three finger styles for the banjo...If you play a thumb lead two finger style, or you're just starting to experiment with it, try using your middle finger and thumb rather than thumb and index. Doing this will allow you to bring in the index when the feeling moves you--or not,,,, I'm not to much of a purist and because of that, I've been able to try things "outside of the purist" box and utilize what I call, melody driven styles using two and three fingers within the same tune... go to Rusnakbanjo on Youtube to see some of what I mean...

I knew him from when we lived in northern Virginia. Three of us, Don, John Huerta and myself constituted THE ARLINGTON BANJO LOBBY. Not so much a banjo group as a Political Action Committee...... Of course, Don has the genetic makeup of a talent: his Dad was a long time banjo player, a very capable, credible 4 string player to the end of what I recall was a very long life. Don is also a very gentle, encouraging and positive teacher. To me, the depth and range of his banjo work is incredible, from three finger Scruggs type playing to old time two and three finger playing, to clawhammering of ever possible regional variant. Do yourselves a favor. Track down his videos. BUT DON'T tell Don I said any of this. V/R, Lew
	IamNoMan says: 11/17/2014 12:03:24 AM I started using the TI fingers. I still find this useful because I can chord using the index finger and drop my thumb below the index. I have found that TM fingering has some very useful aspects as well. For me the muscle memory works better this way and know the spacial relationships between TM relative to the strings makes my accuracy much better. The TM is also very useful for fan strokes with MRP fingers while allowing that extra melody note with the Index finger.
