There will be an old time 2-finger banjo class May 13-18 taught by Chip Arnold at the John C. Campbell Folkschool in Murphy, NC. ( www.folkschool.org ) Should be fun! ------------------------------------------

Learn the wonderfully expressive, old-time, two-finger banjo style made famous by such players as Bascom Lunsford and Will Keys. We'll take your abilities as a somewhat experienced clawhammer or three-finger player, and apply them with new techniques and individual guidance to bring forth your inner two-finger player. Emphasis will be on learning by ear, but tablature will be available.

	deleuran says: 1/26/2012 1:37:13 PM Wish I lived a little closer. I live in Denmark, so it's a pretty long way to travel. I love two finger picking and want to learn more. We could also mention Wade Mainer who died in september last year 104 years old. Doc Bogs is another one. Roscoe Holcombe, Morgan Sexton and many others.

In lack a live lecture, I can recommend this site called Thumb-Lead Banjer: 2ftlbanjer.wordpress.com/ Lots of tabs of tunes played in thumb-lead style, and mp3 sound bites of the same tunes. It has been very useful for me. All downloadable for free. The creator of the site is Sean Barth who go by the username mojo_monk here on BHO.

In fact, my natural inclination is to play thumb-lead, but in doing so I struggle mightily with the problem of including the fifth string consistently. Actually, Chip gave me a lot of good advice on another thread but, in the long run, it seems it might be easier to convert mainly to index lead, which makes all the clawhammer tabs and techniques more useful.
