Just excellent, Don. Thanks. I'm moving towards two-finger and, as an old guitar picker, index lead just seems more natural than thumb-lead. Plus, as you point out, you can adapt most clawhammer arrangements directly (more or less) to index-lead.

Being one who has ADHD, and who has loved all things, “ Banjo “ since first hearing my dad play “Bye Bye Blues” on his tenor banjo in our home in Pittsburgh in 1958?... I have morphed into a 5-String player that is compelled to learn, and to feel compelled, and at ease, with utilizing different styles within a tune. As a pretty much individual player, not needing to conform to a particular style, I am free to play with more abandon than what is expected within established norms we’ve all come to now. If I ever have one thing to put forth to players of folk styles of any kind, is this- learn the styles and the fundamentals of the instrument and play it for you....We seem to be compartmentalized as far as styles are concerned. One style not fitting in with the other. As an individual player, you need not feel compelled or coerced to conform to the specific style put forth. Try playing a Grandpa Jones style, or a Uncle Dave Macon style banjo rendition of a tune in a jam filled with Round Peake players! ... the next tune should be titled, “ stink eye “ or, “ who just farted”. I guess, what I’m trying to get across to folks is, if you don’t wish to conform to a specific style, don’t.... Oh, and by the way- I just farted ; )
PS We do need those purists and keepers of regional styles like Round Peake. But, if a banjo player comes into your Round Peake Clufftop jam and plays a non Kyle Creed, or Wade Ward break, please give him a thumbs up. Remember- a thumb. ??
