Head tension and set up question for Pre War Gibson TT owners.

From alanjg1 on 1/31/2014 12:33:20 PM

Hello all,

I wondered if any owners of a pre-war Gibson top tension banjo had experimented and come up with an optimum head tension that brought the best out of the banjo.

I guess this is directed at those that use a drum dial and/or tap tune the head.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Alan

I have adjusted mine and like it between a G and a G#. It also sounds great up to about an A but I find it effects the playing a little bit and it is not as soft (easy) a playing instrument.

Just my thoughts but I would like to hear from others as well.

Hello,

I use a drum dial with a custom pattern to get to where I like it. I get to 91. 92-94 is A.
