Changing the way I practice

From billlink on 2/20/2012 8:47:26 AM

I'm tired of Purgatory!  I know the chords, I know the notes, I know the rolls, I know the scales.  I can read music and I can read tab, but I'm stuck there.  I think from now on, I am going to make a conscious effort to spend only half my practice time reading tab to get new ideas and learn new stuff, and the other half playing along with recordings.

I think it is necessary to dissect a recording beforehand.  Figure out the chord changes until you know them exactly.  Then stick with a recording until you can keep up with every nuance in it.  Then play along with it 10,000 more times.
