Gourd's

From BackDraft307 on 3/7/2013 10:42:25 AM

Thought it would be nice to get others thoughts and Ideas flowing here...

Where do you get your Gourd's from?

What kind/size gourds do you us?

Do you get them cleaned?

Clean them yourself?

What Wood do you use for necks?

what scale do you like to build?

I got my 1st gourds off ebay ryancreek is his name there. 3out of 5 worked good. he replaced the others.

then I got some canteens from wellbourn farm,, but they ended up being almost 25.00 a piece with shipping.

I got they uncut and uncleaned

For neck so far Ive used pine and poplar. I wouldn't use this for a steel string, but they seem fine for nylon/gut strings.

so far Ive built mostly around the 25.5 scale ,,, but Im working on a 24"
fun fun

I got a gourd from the farmer's market here in Memphis last fall, haven't built yet. Built a cigar box last spring, works OK, kind of quiet. Planning to build the gourd this spring, whenever I can find the time. Already got a neck glued up, poplar with an old rosewood fingerboard that I screwed up the fret spacing on (glued slot-side down). Have a goatskin head from Elderly. Will let you know how it goes.

I've got three gourds from a "Historical Farm" where I played a gig. They were just for display, and then thrown away! What kind o wood do you folks recommend for the neck? I have three others which used cherry and one of oak. I use gut strings.
I'm really looking forward to making my own.
Thanks!
