Volume of my V35 Maple

From jmoliver on 5/26/2012 8:12:46 AM

I absolutely love my V35, tone, etc. My only dissatisfaction is the volume when playing in jams. I'm not a soft player but I don't bear down incredibly hard when I pick either. I've raised the action to just a little over 1/8" @12th fret which helped. The head is pretty tight.

Question: Do any of you who own a V35 have the same issue? Any suggestions for me?

Thanks

Dunno. I see from your Homepage that you've been playing a long time, so you should have a sense of volume. I just had V-35 here for a few days. I had the action tweaked for a student. Boy, was it loud. About the same as my own earlier (2003) Greenbriar, but different tone. First place to check is the head. "Tightness" can be subjective. Are the bridge feet pushing into the head very much? If I were a rich man....I'd own both the older and a newer one.

Head tension is set right, height of strings a tad bit over 1/8" @ 12th fret ... I might just be losing some hearing ... along with my sight @ 50! Thanks for your input coelhoe, JMO

Try playing it in a different place. My music room is in a carpeted basement and that cuts the volume some. Also, have others listen while you play it ewith some other instruments, and get their opinions. Hearing problems can sneak up on you. I'm getting two hearing devices fitted next week. Should have done it ten years ago.
