They don't call, they don't write

From coelhoe on 12/28/2011 4:25:21 PM

About four months ago I bought a used Sullivan Greenbrier, sight unseen. It is ostensibly from 2008 but I can't tell, and the factory won't help.

Some years ago I had some dealings with Bill Sullivan and I had great respect for his banjo knowledge and helpfulness. The man knew his stuff and was always ready to help.

When the previous series was developed, I liked the look of the instrument and the descriptions of the designs and materials.

I've played almost everything on the market at one time or another since starting banjo in '62, and I'm very happy with the GB, but less so with present staff at the factory. I have written them twice at their "contact" email with question about the age and warranty of the banjo I purchased and they simply do not respond.  When I bought a Deering last summer I had prompt and extended discussions with four different factory people.

I've read the articles about how FQMS almost went under and about their new business plan, and I've recommended their new series (V-35) instruments to others, but I am frustrated by their lack of communication.

Having said all that, I think the earlier series with the bound peghead is very collectable, and the newer series has every chance of becoming that as well.

Rather than "writing" them why don't you pick up the phone and have a "discussion" with them like you did with Deering?

All of my interaction with Deering was by the internet, and USPS. Phones are difficult for me.

Call First Quality and ask for Murrell Thixton. My experience dealing with First Quality telephonically has alway been outstanding. I am confident that Murrell can and will help you if you make call.

I spoke with Murrell at length when deciding to purchase a new V35 and I found him to be very helpful and willing to talk as long as I wanted to talk. Give him a call.

I've had Jeff Sullivan call me many several times in regards to questions. In fact, he just offered to send me pictures of a V-35 being built as we speak. I suggest you try calling. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Ask to speak with Jeff or email Jeff directly.

Just my 2 cents

Freinds: While I appreciate the constant advice to "..call them," if your read my note of Dec. 28th, you'll see that it is not that simple, and that is why I posted this in the first place. Believe me, if I only needed to pick up the phone, this would have been solve long ago.

To "onlinemike" How would I get Jeff's unique email?

Hi Dennis! Check your email, all of Jeff's personal contact info has been sent as per his instructions. He sends his apologies if you have had any troubles. I also emailed him your BHO post and he was going to try to email you this evening. He wanted you to have his info regardless and looks forward to helping you out.
