My sister has a cute name for gigs that are done mainly for the exposure and pay off in the long run. She calls them sperm gigs. Farmers Markets are a good example of sperm gigs. If I may speak from experience, the last farmers market we played at in May got us a cool wedding gig last weekend- we got 125$ each, ate and drank fancy catered food and beer for free, took in the esthetics of happy people, played background and did not even need to sing!
