taxi.com: not dead after all

From MrNatch3L on 5/5/2011 4:55:39 AM

I came across www.taxi.com for the first time back around 1996. My thoughts at the time included "bogus", "rip-off", "will soon die well-deserved death".

Well, I've been wrong before and it seems I was wrong about this. Purely by accident, I just discovered that, like the Energizer Bunny, Taxi online A&R is not only still going, but apparently going strong. Interesting since it costs you 300 clams to join plus 5 to submit a song, plus 199 to renew after a year. But according to Wikipedia, it's been around since '92. Must be something to it if it survived this  long. Either a lot of people are at least recouping their investment or a lot of people just like to keep blowing cash in their direction.

So, Group... anybody here a Taxi member or former member? Any thoughts to share about this outfit?

I have no knowledge of Taxi.com. From what you said, it looks like an expensive option.

I joined Taxi for a 2-year stint.

I attended a seminar with about 200 other people, you do the math. The seminars alone make them wealthy.

They openly admitted to discriminating against people who were older because of the possibility of less 'positive exploitation." I worked with handicapped people, I was shocked to see this, and hear this openly, "age makes a difference." "A negative difference."

As it turned out, one of my songs called "Razor Road" really interested them, but the younger screeners had trouble understanding lyric allusion, alliteration, rhyming and just good writing.

Their comment was: "must have been before my time."

Thus the discrimination filtered down from management which sets the tone.

Also the reality of what the music industry wants and needs is so far different from nice people sitting down and writing good songs, or performing them on stage themselves with bandstand CDs available.

Radio is becoming impossible.

So I would never use Taxi.com again.
Also 2 weeks after I joined for 2 years I was notified that my membership would expire very soon if I did not renew immediately. They don't know what they are doing, they contract call centers, and they have suffered deliberate monkey-wrenching from disgruntled screeners.

The screeners they employ are Taxi songwriters themselves, it's inbred to the hilt.

I'm sorry I wasted my time with Taxi. They do send weekly listing by email, you CAN submit right from your computer, but what do you GET??

It would be better if artists in an interest group like this would form a protection circle. ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC??

Groups like Taxi.com suck peoples' dreams. The seminar I attended had ONE gray-haired person: me. Age matters.

Got a review from a submittal. Highest scores ( 10 ) for writing, recording, listening to, etc. * for marketbilty.... most of what I see requests for are pop tunes/vocals to immulate current or easily recognizable songs. Kind of a "hit machine" type thing
