Old-Time Banjo 2&3 Finger Workshop-7/10-Pittsboro

From gailg64 on 5/29/2011 9:48:44 AM

Hi folks,

I am exited to have been asked to lead a one day workshop at SG Fiddles in Pittsboro, NC on old-time banjo fingerpicking. The date we're looking at is July 10. 10 AM -3:00 PM with a  break for lunch at Virlie's next door.

The workshop will be directed toward people who already play clawhammer at an intermediate level and are curious about our local non-clawhammer/up-picking banjo traditions. Pick locally!

Workshop description: Think Globally but Pick Locally: A Survey of Piedmont 2 & 3 Finger Banjo Picking Styles. A one day overview of central NC & VA up picking. Demonstration, handouts with tabs & diagrams for right hand excercises,  and tabs for 2 major approaches, "roll" & "flat chord" style.

Gail Gillespie

Location: SG Music Company, 78 Hillsborough St., Pittsboro, NC. 27312

Hi folks, The workshop is now full, and will take place at a larger venue: Roy Underhill's Woodwright Shop Workshop in Pittsboro. We are taking names for a repeat, possibly in the fall/October. Call SG Music, number above, if interested.

Can current 2-finger "up pickers" attend too?

I'm signed up for 7/10. There was a cancellation I was able to take.

Thanks Kevin and to everyone registered. Looking forward to a big time tomorrow. I am proud to have some distinguished guests assist me: Jim Collier, Wayne & Margaret Martin & my patient clawhammering husband Dwight Rogers. Jim, Margaret & Wayne will be demonstrating banjo styles they learned face to face from some old-timers now gone on. My husband will be an all-around assistant & if there's time he & I will attempt to demonstrate that 2 banjos can co-exist in a single tune.
