Duo Style Exercise "Bells of St. Marys" plus Buffalo Gals (duo-style)

Duo Style Exercise "Bells of St. Marys" based on P. Bechtel's version plus Buffalo Gals (duo style for Plectrum)

Well if you're a plectrum student and you've worked thru the exercise on duo-style (contrasting the bass melody against the treble strings,) here is your chance to shine.  If you listen to Perry Bechtel play his great version of The Bells of St. Marys, Perry employs a lot of duo-style in the first chorus by simply accenting passing notes and accenting the beat with full strums while essentially maintaining the melody on his D string.  But in the SECOND chorus, he lets the C and G strings take the melody for duo-style accenting the harmonizing chord on the B and D string in full strums.  So in this exercise, we will concentrate only on the SECOND chorus.  The second chorus is diagramed in three slides (see the Photos section) with this accompanying MP3 file.  (You might even find this easier to play than the basic duo-style exercise!)

The FIRST cut, you'll hear the tune played at a regular tempo. 
The SECOND cut slows it down so you can study it along with the diagrams. 
The THIRD cut is very up tempo.

I'll leave the first and third choruses to you.  Listen to Perry's version and note how he uses passing notes within the harmonizing chords.  Spend some time analyzing this great solo and you'll be rewarded for your efforts.   (You can preview Perry's album on iTunes.)

BONUS TRACKS:
The FOURTH cut is the bonus track: Buffalo Gals in duo style at a regular tempo. 
The FIFTH cut is the tune up tempo. 
The SIXTH cut slows it down for you.  There are no diagrams on this one, so try to figure out the chord harmonies.  You already no the positions, so this will be a test for your ear and fingers.

On the treble side of duo-style, Eddie Peabody beautifully explains how to use duo-style by keeping the melody notes on the D string while accenting the harmonizing chord on the beat with the C, G and B strings.  This is just the opposite of playing the melody on the bass side with the C and G strings.  It's a great lesson----as are ALL of Eddies lessons.
