For those of you exploring the plectrum, I just added a basic duo-style exercise to help you begin to get the feel for duo-style. It's pretty self explanatory using two beats to execute an ascending / descending exercise. In clear diagrams, the melody note is the first beat (in red) and the harmonizing chord is the second beat. I placed it in the PHOTO section of my BHO web page, where you'll find some other exercises too. It's entitled: Basic Duo Style Exercise (Plectrum). I also noted that all the forms in this exercise except for two are used in Perry Bechtels' duo style chorus of The Bells Of St. Mary's. If you listen to Perry play after you've ran over this exercise, you can easily find almost all of it on the fret board.
And if you don't already own a vinyl copy of Perry's album, I provide a link where you can buy the itunes version of it. (Itunes also plays Perry's duo-style version of Bells of St. Mary's on the Preview! How cool is that.) I've also included a link forBuddy Wachter's great compilation CD too. If you love the banjo, get these two albums
