Do we have a new Pete Seeger out there?

From Bill Anderson on 5/4/2014 9:25:07 AM

Do we have a new Pete Seeger out there? Yes is anyone of a newer generation filling Pete's roll?

Pete Seeger was many different things and filled many answers at unique times in history. How do you define a "Pete Seeger" and his roll?

That's like asking who the new Bob Dylan is. There is neither a new Dylan nor a new Seeger.

The music scene has changed so much. I'd love to see someone take on Pete's role, but that would require quite the musical and political resume. Pete was able to criss-cross his country and pick up all kinds of musical and social insights. Things don't quite work that way any more.

Michael Cooney was Seeger-like in his knowledge of folk music, Don MacLean as well. Billy Bragg seems to have a handle on the social/political side. David Francy does it for us up here. But Pete was/is unique. And none of the aforementioned are exactly spring chickens.

Hobo's Lullaby
Linked by Marc Nerenberg 9 years ago: Hobo's Lullaby is a song by "The Texas Drifter" (Goebel Reeves) who was a one-time hobo, turned country singer who specialized in songs about hobos. I first heard this song sung by Pete Seeger.
