Nine instructional videos of Seeger-style banjo

From Keith55 on 6/27/2017 5:30:23 PM

I'm new to this group so I don't know if these videos are known by the other members. Colin Bazsali has a series of instructional videos on Youtube for a class he was teaching to beginning players about Pete Seeger-style banjo. I'm a beginner myself so they seem useful for me. The first of the videos is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pjAai7PtxU

I agree – I came across Colin's videos, and I was very impressed with his ability to accurately capture Pete's techniques, possiblymore so than anyone else I've seen. I actually emailed Colin to urge him to consider writing a manual on Seeger's style of playing. It is always been amazing to me that for all the books and manuals about different banjo styles, there is no book on Pete's style except Pete's original book, first written in 1948.

Happy Traum has an audio series "Learn Five-String Banjo" (homespun.com/shop/product/five...lus-book/). Four of the CDs cover Seeger-style up-picking as well as some of the other styles (not clawhammer) in Pete's manual. These are also for beginners.

Hobo's Lullaby
Linked by Marc Nerenberg 9 years ago: Hobo's Lullaby is a song by "The Texas Drifter" (Goebel Reeves) who was a one-time hobo, turned country singer who specialized in songs about hobos. I first heard this song sung by Pete Seeger.
