Hi folks, I'm looking for advice / help with a repair job.

I was playing a show on Saturday night and the neck snapped clean off my banjo at the heel. It is a very clean break but I need it professionally repaired.

Any advice?

mosco says: 3/3/2014 7:46:21 AM Where are you located? This is a relatively easy repair and should be virtually invisible if done correctly. But it should be done soon. It is recommended that a break like this be tightly wrapped with something like a plastic kitchen wrap to keep air from the broken surfaces so there is no oxidation of the newly exposed wood. Hot hide glue is preferred, as it takes both heat and moisture to cause a glue joint failure, while others require heat only. (Like your car's trunk in the summer) Tell us where you are located and we can make recommendations for its repair.

Rick Turner says: 7/3/2014 2:36:54 PM What Mosco says is absolutely spot on. A proper hot hide glue repair of a broken heel can come out virtually undetectable. I wish I'd gotten a-hold of the 1922 Style C tenor that I just bought for my son before someone had fixed it. I'm working to minimize the visuals on it. Such a beauty! This heel break seems to be all-too common on Paramounts.
