Mr. G. is one of my favorite players; I just can't get enough of him, and there's not that much recorded material of his about. I wonder if you think his unique sound is a new approach to the old tunes he does or whether he's uncovering for us a 19th century syncopated style that other current trad players don't much embody. For those not familiar with Dan's music, I wish I could point you to some clips. We do have a recording used for a dancer's video. Another way to see this is that Dan's approach to pre-20th century tunes is neither 19th century nor contemporary. Listening to him, maybe one can deduce that he was heavily influenced by blues, ragtime, and New Orleans jazz.
