The worst tailpiece ever

From Foote on 4/21/2021 11:28:39 AM

Hi all,  New member to the group.  I have a 79 Ode D.  A beautiful banjo with the gold in great shape.  I bought it a few years ago relatively cheaply due to a messed up neck.  I was able to buy a new old stock neck for a 79 D from Todd Taylor, a BHO member, so now it's almost mint. Love the banjo except for the tailpiece, which although great looking on the banjo, it is the most difficult tailpiece I've ever dealt with when it come to changing strings.  I've tried to put on other tailpieces, but hole in the flange is too close to the rim for the bolts for the ones I have on hand.  Does anyone have a tailpiece to recommend?

I've found after some experience with the ode model d that if you bend the loop to where it want slip off the tailpiece notch its pretty smooth sailing.

Thanks, burchO, I've tried that and it does help but still a pain compared to other tailpieces. Sure is pretty though.

Linked by 35planar 5 years ago: Looking for an ODE 5-string neck, pre-Baldwin, dowel stick or no dowel stick, long or standard, tuners or none as long as the truss rod, frets, and wood are decent with no twist. I know, seems futile.
