Old Time Jam??

From mojohand40 on 5/16/2013 6:56:31 AM

We really need a northern, VA old time jam.

I go to a few Bluegrass Jams, locally. We've even started a BullRun Bluegrass Association that has monthly jams nearby. But, no old time.

I've been driving up to Brunswick, MD for Old time jams, but that's too far.

I know we all talked about this a little a few years back, but let's try again.

I'm thinking we could try again for Signal Hill Park in Manassas? Maybe 1st and 3rd Saturday, 2:00 to 4:00 pm?

For common tunes to start, we could use the Old Tim Jam site's top twenty?

Any thoughts?

You might be able to get some word out locally by contacting Rosemarie Nielsen who deejays the Old-Time show on WAMU Bluegrass Country. Mary Cliff on WAMU also announces a lot of local interest music events.

Online, dcbu.org has free jam listing and classifieds, mostly bluegrass oriented but they get seen by a lot of old-time pickers too. CABOMA (caboma.org) hosts jams in Northern Virginia too, not sure what the balance of bluegrass to old-time is at theirs but they could help you get in touch with more folks.

I do occasionally go to the Caboma jams, and enjoy them, mostly I play mandolin at those, but they really are geared 90% to Bluegrass. (and it takes me an hour or more to get there from Manassas).
If I get any interest, I'll post something on the DCBU calender. thanks.
