The other weekend (November 13) we went to Ottawa where Teilhard Frost of Sheesham and Lotus gave a workshop on stroke style playing, as the old minstrels did. He brought a couple of the gourd banjos he makes, too. The downside was the two-hour limit. We really needed more time to absorb things. But it was a good introduction to the style and has reinforced the idea of getting an old style fretless banjo. I posted some photos on my home page if you're interested. They include a close-up of him with one of his gourd banjos. It looks like the major expense is for tacks!
