Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of the best thickness and wood for making a wooden tone-ring for a mountain banjo? Is purple heart a good choice for the wood? Is a thickness less than 1/2" best for a tone ring that is internally tensioned?
Any information on this topic would be appreciated. This will be the first mountain banjo I have made, all the others have been regular open-backs.
